Tribunal Returns with Santa Anita Win

Robert and Beverly Lewis' talented 3-year-old colt Tribunal returned to the races Saturday for the first time since being sidelined in April, winning a seven-furlong optional claiming race by three-quarter lengths over Jimmy Z.

After facing the likes of Fusaichi Pegasus, David Copperfield, and Aptitude in his first two races, Tribunal won for the first time in his third career start. He then finished second to Fusaichi Pegasus in a tough Santa Anita allowance race. He followed that with a 10th-place finish in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II) before defeating Greenbaypacker and Jimmy Z in a 1 1/16-mile allowance heat. Saturday's win, his first race since the allowance win, improves his career mark to three wins in seven starts.

By Deputy Minister and out of Six Crowns, by Secretariat, Tribunal is a half-brother to both champion Chief's Crown and multiple grade I winner Classic Crown.

Bred in Kentucky by Carl Rosen Associates, Tribunal is trained by Bob Baffert and paid $8.60 to win as the second wagering choice. He stopped the timer in 1:22.11.
