Keeneland sold 11 horses for $72,700 during its January Internet Auction on Thursday. The online sale provided consignors an opportunity to sell horses which failed to reach their reserve bid during the recently completed January Horses of All Ages Sale. Topped by the $30,900 paid by Martin Stables, Inc. for a broodmare in foal to Tale of the Cat, the 11 horses averaged $6,609. Keeneland offered 64 horses that either did not reach their reserve or were withdrawn from the January sale. Keeneland has held online auctions in conjunction with the September yearling, November breeding stock and January sales. "We were pleased to have sold 11 horses Thursday," said Internet Sales Administrator Stephen Koch. "There was increased bidding, indicating a heightened awareness of the Internet auction process. With each session, we learn and make improvements with the ultimate goal of better serving the Thoroughbred industry. We continue to be optimistic about the future of Internet auctions."
Online bidding stopped at $30,900 on Barbi Twins, a 7-year-old broodmare by Pleasant Colony out of graded stakes winner Invited Guest. Craig Bandoroff's Denali Stud sold the mare, who is pregnant to Storm Cat's son Tale of the Cat.
