Valid Expectations Colt Posts Fastest OBSC Workout

Working into a stiff headwind, a colt by Valid Expectations sped a quarter mile in :21 3/5, the fastest work at the distance at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Under Tack Preview for the 2001 Sale of Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training at Calder Race Course. The colt, who sells as Hip No. 4, consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, is out of stakes winner The Lady's Unreal, by Unreal Zeal.

Hip No. 88, an Irish River (FR) colt consigned by Mark Casse, Agent, turned in the next fastest quarter mile, zipping the distance in :21 4/5. Hip No. 190, My Ol' Man, was also clocked in :21 4/5 for a quarter. He's a colt by End Sweep out of Seattle Retreat, by Seattle Dancer, also consigned by Casse.

Six youngsters shared honors for the fastest eighth mile breeze, stopping the timer in :10 2/5. Hip No. 26, Devilsh Intentions, is a colt by Devil His Due consigned by Terry Oliver, Agent. Hip No. 29, also consigned by Oliver, is a colt by Royal Academy out of stakes winner Afare, by Meadowlake. Hip No. 68, Booklet, is a colt by Notebook out of unraced Crafty Bobbie, by Bob's Dusty, a half-sister to stakes winner Trebizond. Solitary Oak, Agent for Foothills II, consigned the bay colt. Hip No.84, consigned by H & H Equine, Agent, is a filly by Fortunate Prospect out of stakes-placed Endearing Charm, by Houston. Hip No. 93, a filly by Tabasco Cat consigned by Ricky Leppala, Agent, is out of a half-sister to graded stakes winner Nannerl. Hip No. 140, consigned by Straightaway Farm, Agent, is a filly by Marquetry out of stakes winning Lip Sing, by Clever Trick.

All of the session's workouts were videotaped and are available for viewing at the Sales grounds.

Buyers get another look at the horses in the Calder Sale at the Under Tack Show at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 4 at Calder Race Course. The OBS-Calder Sale itself is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6 at 10:30 a.m.
