Horse of the Year Tiznow was enjoying another walk day today at Barn 37 at Santa Anita, his second in-a-row following his loss as the odds-on favorite to Wooden Phone in Saturday's Strub Stakes. Trainer Jay Robbins was at a loss to explain the colt's dull performance in the Strub but said the Breeders' Cup Classic champ will continue to train into the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap March 3.
"Yeah, we gave him an extra day off," said Robbins looking at the muddy ground underneath, the result of overnight rains. "No sense in his galloping over this stuff today."The low-key Robbins was still puzzled by Tiznow's sub-par Strub performance."I doní't have any valid explanations," said Robbins. "He should have been able to punch it in coming home. But we'll be back, everything looks good right now. We even took a blood sample as a precaution and everything came back normal."
Tiznow bled slightly in the Strub and Robbins mentioned that the level of Lasix administered may be modified for his next start. Tiznow will resume galloping on Thursday.
