Prather, 8 Other Women Vie in Turfway Valentine's Race

Wednesday night's eighth race at Turfway Park has been designated for women jockeys only, with the meet's leading rider, Kris Prather, heading up a list of nine females named on 3-year-old maiden fillies set to go 1 1/16 miles. For that race and other races won by a female jockey on the Valentine's Day program, Turfway is donating $500 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Prather, with 58 wins from 206 mounts since the Jan. 1 opening of the meet (more than 30 wins ahead of her closest competitor), has the mount on the Dare and Go filly Dare About for trainer Elliott Walden. Dare About finished fourth in her career debut sprinting in January. Also named in the race is Jennifer Bramblett (fifth in the standings), who rides Garden Beauty for trainer John Glenney. Garden Beauty comes off a good second in a Turfway sprint in January. Others are veteran Patricia Cooksey (aboard White Hot for Elliott Walden); Shelly Morgan (Twilight Morning); Bonnie Castaneda (Momsfandango); Beth Butler (Cool Fastness); Joddie Fortner (Ocean Isle); Tammy Fox (Illusory); and Rhonda Collins (Peak Me Up).

Wednesday's eighth race for female jockeys is scheduled to be run at 8:55 p.m. It (along with all of Turfway's races) can be seen live on TVG, available on the DISH network.
