The 1977 Triple Crown winner has sired 92 stakes winners and has prgeny earnings in excess of $70 million.
The first mare bred to Seattle Slew was pronounced in foal on Feb. 27. The mare, Dreams of Success, a 4-year-old maiden mare by Dixieland Band, is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Craig Bandoroff's Denali Stud and was covered by the Triple Crown winner at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. "Everything looked promising in terms of Seattle Slew's fertility," said farm president Dan Rosenberg. "But naturally there's nothing like the certainty of the first mare he bred being in foal. He's bred more than 10 mares so far."Seattle Slew, now 27-years-old, returned to the breeding shed on February 12, and plans call for him to cover 46 mares. He missed most of last season because of physical ailments and fertility problems.
