Heritage of Gold Repeats in Oaklawn Breeders' Cup Stakes

Heritage of Gold began her 6-year-old campaign the same way she started her 5-year-old season – defeating Lu Ravi in the Oaklawn Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III). The one-two finishers from last year's renewal of the $200,000 race duplicated their performances Sunday at Oaklawn Park. This year the exacta returned $9.60.

Crystal Sea set the pace as Heritage of Gold relaxed along the rail during the early going. Lu Ravi and Jostle began to move on the leader early on the second turn before Jostle dropped back. Heritage of Gold then began a wide run and swept to the lead en route to the win.

Heritage of Gold stopped the timer after 1:44.30 run on a fast track and finished two lengths clear of Lu Ravi, a half-length more than last year. Ive Gota Bad Liver closed from last to finish third, a neck behind Lu Ravi. Crystal Sea, Gold for My Gal, Due to Win, Miss Seffens, and Jostle completed the order of finish.

Jockey Robby Alabarado was aboard the winner, who last raced in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) in November, finishing third behind Spain and Surfside. Heritage of Gold earned $120,000 for the win, her 16th in 27 starts. Bred in Kentucky by Georgia E. Hofmann, Heritage of Gold is trained by Thomas M. Amoss for owner Jack Garey.

Heritage of Gold (Gold Legend - Lyphard Gal, by Lyphard) reutrned $4.20, $2.20, and $2.20. Lu Ravi paid $2.40 and $2.40. Ive Gota Bad Liver was worth $4.60 to show. (Chart, Equibase)
