Queen Elizabeth Broadcast On TVG

TVG will provide tape-delayed coverage of the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (Gr. I) from Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong, featuring the globetrotting French star Jim and Tonic, the winner of the $2 million Dubai Duty Free Stakes (gr. I) in his last race. With a purse $1.3 million, the international event will be aired on TVG Sunday, April 22 starting at 11:00 a.m. (EDT).

"This is a first for racing from Hong Kong on TVG and we are pleased to introduce it to U.S. television audiences with a premier race like the Queen Elizabeth II Cup," said Tony Allevato, Vice President and Executive Producer.

"We are maintaining our strong commitment to international racing. Over the past year, we have found that coverage of major international racing events such as the Dubai World Cup, the Prix de l' Arc de Triomphe, Royal Ascot and the Singapore Cup has been very popular with our U.S. viewers."

The Queen Elizabeth II Cup was first run in Happy Valley in 1975 and became an International event in 1995. The 2001 running will be the inauguration of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup as an international group I race.

Jim and Tonic won the 1999 renewal of the race and placed second to Industrialist in a dramatic finish last year. He is expected to face a competitive field including Daliapour, Caitano, Silvano and Sobieski, who hails from the powerful Godolphin Stable of the Maktoum family of Dubai.
