Pimlico Special Lures 13 Nominees

Top older horses will be in the spotlight the weekend between the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the grade I Pimlico Special, which has lured 13 nominess. The 1 3/16-mile event will held at Pimlico Race Course May 12.

Mike Pegram's Captain Steve, winner of this year's $6-million Dubai World Cup, was nominated to the Pimlico Special but may not compete. Captain Steve worked recently at Churchill Downs, but trainer Bob Baffert said at the time he had no immediate schedule for him.

Also nominated were Tracy Farmer's Albert The Great, winner of the grade 3 Widener Handicap at Hialeah Park, and William Clifton Jr.'s Pleasant Breeze, who finished a close second to Sir Bear in the grade I Gulfstream Park Handicap in his last start.

Other nominees for the Special are Euchre, Laredo, Lido Palace, Milwaukee Brew, Sergeant York, Sick As A Parrot, Toddler, Traditionally, and Windrush.
