Deal in Works for Sale of Open Forum

Florida stallion Open Forum, who heads the nation's first-crop sire list in several categories, might be headed to Central Kentucky. According to trainer Mark Casse, who serves as director of operations for Harry Mangurian Jr.'s Mockingbird Farm, the farm is negotiating with a major Central Kentucky outfit for the sale of the 7-year-old stallion, but the deal is far from being over.

Open Forum, who is the sole stallion standing at Mockingbird near Ocala, Fla., is represented by four winners, including stakes winner Open Story and stakes-placed Barnacle Steve. Open Story set a track record of :57.28 for five furlongs in winning the Three Chimneys Juvenile Stakes at Churchill Downs. Barnacle Steve set a track record of :53.24 for 4 1/2 furlongs at Hialeah and was second in the Hialeah Juvenile Stakes. The other two winners, Jealous Forum and Lott, won their first start.

A son of Deputy Minister, Open Forum was a stakes winner and graded stakes-placed as a 3-year-old. His dam, Agretta (by Graustark), is a full sister to champion Tempest Queen.
