Nominations Sought for Dominion Award

Nominations for the ninth annual Dogwood Dominion Awards, which honors the "unsung heroes" within the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry, are being accepted. Nominees should be people who "go beyond the call of duty" in their everyday lives and at work.

The winner will receive a $5,000 check and a bonze statute of Dominion during a luncheon Aug. 1 at Saratoga Springs, NY. The judges for the award are Anne Campbell, Penny Chenery, and Jerry Bailey.

The award was inspired by multiple stakes winner Dominion who was campaigned by Dogwood Stable in the 1970s and went on to become a five-time champion sire in England.

Former winners include H.W. "Salty" Roberts, Howard "Gelo" Hall, Peggy Sprinkles, Grace Belcuore, Nick Caras, Donald "Peanut Butter" Brown, Danny Perlsweig, and Katherine Todd Smith.

Nominations may be mailed to Mary Jane Howell, Dogwood Stable, P.O. Box 1549, Aiken, SC, 29802, or faxed to (803) 642-2747. Nominations also can be submitted through Dogwood Stable Web site at All nominations must be received no later than July 3.
