OJC Now Woodbine Entertainment Group

The Ontario Jockey Club is no more -- in name only.

The OJC on Friday changed its name to Woodbine Entertainment Group, and also unveiled a new Web site that reflects the change. In a prepared statement, WEG said the new name better reflects the scope of the company and its business.

"With the complete modernization of the company's two racetracks, dramatically expanded product distribution, and enhanced quality of the company's horse racing coupled with the province's introduction of slot machines as a second and extremely popular form of wagering, the company has emerged as a in Canada's entertainment industry," WEC said.

The OJC was founded on May 5, 1881. In past years, it operated several tracks, but now is down to Woodbine and Mohawk Raceway in the Toronto, Ontario, area. In addition to the two tracks, WEC also is involved with Champions Off-Track Wagering, Horse Player Interactive, and The Racing Network Canada.
