The following is from an NTRA press release:
Some of the most stirring near-misses in Triple Crown history will be chronicled on ESPN Classic this week on "Thoroughbred Classics Presented by the NTRA." Co-hosted by Jim McKay and Jack Whitaker, the program will air initially on Wednesday, June 6, from 6:30-7:00 p.m. (ET), with repeat showings Thursday, June 7, from 7:00-7:30 a.m. (ET) and Friday, June 8 from 9:30-10:00 a.m. (ET) and again from 5:30-6:00 p.m. (ET)
Produced by NTRA Productions, this week's show will focus on the Triple Crown quests of Canonero II, Spectacular Bid, Pleasant Colony, Alysheba, Sunday Silence, Silver Charm, Real Quiet and Charismatic, all of whom won the first two jewels of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, before coming up short in the Belmont Stakes.
"This program offers an in-depth look at some of the most dramatic Belmont Stakes moments ever," said Ben Cambra, vice president of NTRA Productions. "Though the Derby and Preakness winners featured in the show all tasted defeat in the Belmont, each horse carried with him a unique and compelling story that will forever be part of Triple Crown history."
