Bessemer Trust to Sponsor Juvenile Series

NTRA/Breeders' Cup press release
Bessemer Trust Company has become a major new sponsor of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and Breeders' Cup Limited announced today.

Under terms of its three-year, seven-figure sponsorship agreement, Bessemer Trust will gain entitlement rights to the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Also, the private banking and wealth management company will assume title sponsorship of the "Bessemer Trust Two-Year-Old Challenge," a seven-race series that will be telecast during September and October by NTRA's newest broadcast partner, CNBC.

In addition to these entitlements, Bessemer Trust will receive:

--Advertising and other broadcast enhancements on NBC, CNBC and ESPN/ESPN2;

--On-track signage at all Bessemer Trust Two-Year-Old Challenge races and at the Breeders' Cup;

--Extensive hospitality at marquee horseracing events; and

--Preferred access to over 200,000 breeders and owners.

"The Breeders' Cup represents a legacy of champions," said Frank E. Helsom, president and chief executive officer of Bessemer Trust, "and we are delighted to have the opportunity to become a proud sponsor. We believe that the commitment of the NTRA, as evidenced here today, to convey the prestige, the level of competition, the pageantry and the excitement of the sport through excellent promotion and television coverage will help to differentiate Bessemer Trust. We see the Breeders' Cup as an opportunity to increase awareness of our services through affiliation with one of the finest names in racing."

"We are excited and gratified that Bessemer Trust, a prestigious brand in the financial world, has become one of the World Thoroughbred Championships' first sponsors," said Breeders' Cup President and NTRA Vice Chairman D.G. Van Clief Jr. "The Bessemer Trust Two-Year-Old Challenge is one of the best examples to date of how the combined NTRA/Breeders' Cup operation enables us to deliver attractive, integrated benefits to sponsors."

Carrying a potential bonus of $1.3 million, the Bessemer Trust Two-Year-Old Challenge is a series of races for the World Thoroughbred Championships Juvenile Division from top tracks across the country culminating with the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

The Bessemer Trust Two-Year-Old Challenge will award $250,000 to the owner of an eligible horse who wins any of the series' seven designated races plus the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. If the horse has been sold at public auction, the consignor will receive a $50,000 bonus. If that horse goes on to win the Kentucky Derby the following year, the owner will earn an additional $1 million bonus.
