With a record one-day pick six carryover of $691,095 at Hollywood Park, this Fourth of July could become the financial independence day for some lucky horseplayer. The track estimates Wednesday's pick six pool could approach $3 million.
Hollywood Park bases their estimate on a $2,389,582 pick six pool created by a two-day carryover into a non-holiday Wednesday card in 1998. With Wednesday's holiday, the track figures the pick six pool might meet or exceed the $3-million mark.
The carryover was created when there were no winning tickets in Sunday's guaranteed $1-million pick six, thanks mainly to 45-1 longshot Ceeband catching favored Squirtle Squirt late in the Triple Bend Breeders' Cup Invitational Handicap (gr. II) in the fifth leg of Sunday's wager.
Wednesday's pick six will be comprised of races five through 10, which includes the $150,000 American Handicap (gr. II), in which National Anthem will attract the attention of hunch bettors.
The field for the 1 1/8-mile American will consist of:
1 -- Fighting Falcon, Goncalino Feijo Almeida, 114
2 -- National Anthem, Chris McCarron, 115
3 -- Glyndebourne, Jose Valdivia Jr., 118
4 -- Raypour, Laffit Pincay Jr., 113
5 -- Touch of the Blues, Mike Smith, 118
6 -- Fateful Dream, David Flores, 116
7 -- Takarian, Garrett Gomez, 114
