Janet Upsets Tranquility Lake in Ramona

Red Baron's Barn LLC's Janet utilized a ground-saving trip under jockey David Flores to earn a half-length win over 3-5 favorite Tranquility Lake in Saturday's $400,000 Ramona Handicap (gr. IT) at Del Mar.

The win marks her third consecutive victory on turf, with a third-place finish in the Sheepshead Bay Handicap (gr. II) on a muddy main track her lone loss since March. In that March loss, she finished third in an optional claimer while beaten by only a head-length for the win. Since then, she tallied victories in a Santa Anita allowance and the Yerba Buena Handicap (gr. IIIT) prior to the Sheepshead Bay. The Darrell Vienna-trained 4-year-old filly earned $240,000 for the win, her sixth in 16 career starts. Janet (Emperor Jones -- Bid Dancer, by Spectacular Bid) was bred in Great Britain by Fares Stables Ltd.

In the Ramona, Golden Eagle Farm's Minor Details set a moderate early pace to the inside of Tranquility Lake. Janet skimmed the rails in third through the early going, then was sent through an opening in the stretch en route to the victory, completing the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.20 on a firm track.

Favored Tranquility Lake finished second, with Minor Details settling for third. Beautiful Noise came home fourth, followed by High Walden, and Timi.

Janet returned $32.80, $6.20, and $2.80. Tranquility Lake paid $2.60 and $2.10. Minor Details was worth $2.60 to show. The $1 exacta paid $41.30. (Chart, Equibase)
