Mayakovsky made a spectacular racing debut when he sped 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03 1-5 in Wednesday's third race at Saratoga, breaking a 55-year-old track record.

In winning by 1 1/4 lengths in the race for 2-year-old maidens, the son of Matty G--Joy to Raise (by Raise a Man) eclipsed the previous record of 1:03 2-5 set by Tea Olive on Aug. 30, 1946.

Mayakovsky is owned by Michael Tabor and trained by Patrick Biancone. Bred in Florida by R.C. Van Voorhees, Mayakovsky was sold as a weanling by his breeder at the 1999 OBS Fall Mixed Sale and then resold to Robert A. Scanlon, Agent, by Eisaman Equine, agent for $210,00 at the 2001 OBS April sale.

The track record-setter is the first winner for Matty G, a son of Capote who stands at Pegasus Ranch in Florida for a $4,000 fee.
