Xtra Heat is looking to ace another grade I win in Saturday's $250,000 Test Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course and score bonus points at the same time.
A winner of all but two of her 16-career starts, Xtra Heat goes after her third straight victory when she goes to the post in this seven-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies, which will be televised via tape delay by ESPN 2 from 5-6 p.m. If she wins, as the winner of Keeneland's Beaumont Stakes (gr. II), she will earn a $200,000 bonus from that track.
Xtra Heat's important victory to date came in her last start, when she won the grade I Prioress Stakes at Belmont Park on July 4 by a neck over Above Perfection. In the Test, Xtra Heat will carry top weight of 123 pounds, but will spot no more than seven pounds to any of her eight Test rivals.
A strong challenge could come from Forest Secrets, who jumped up to win the grade I Acorn at a mile around one turn at Belmont Park on June 8. She then, she stretched out to nine furlongs and ran fourth in the Mother Goose (gr. I).
The field for Saturday's grade I Test Stakes includes: Gold Mover (John Velazquez, 120); Secret Liaison (Robbie Davis, 116); Kimbralata (Travis Dunkeberger, 120); Forest Secrets (Jorge Chavez, 120); Carafe (Javier Castellano, 116); Xtra Heat (Rick Wilson, 123); Nasty Storm (Pat Day, 120); Victory Ridge (Edgar Prado, 116); and Harmony Lodge (Jerry Bailey, 116).
