Large Stallion Contingent Preparing for Trip Down Under

More than 30 Central Kentucky stallions have spent all or part of July in quarantine preparing for trips to their Southern Hemisphere bases. Many bound for South America have already reached their destinations, while the majority of those headed to the Pacific Rim will depart early Friday morning. Among their ranks will be two Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winners, one of this year's leading sires, and numerous champions.

The largest contingencies hail from Coolmore's Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., and Vinery, near Lexington. A total of 13 Ashford stallions will spend the second half of the year at an alternate location. Eight of those will be at Coolmore Australia: Bianconi, Fusaichi Pegasus, High Yield, Honour and Glory, King of Kings, Spinning World, Thunder Gulch, and Woodman. Stravinsky is the only Ashford stallion going to New Zealand, and four others will go to South America: Louis Quatorze, Southern Halo, and Victory Speech to Haras La Quebrada in Argentina, and Royal Academy to TNT Stud in Brazil.

Haras La Quebrada will have the largest North American contingent by far. In addition to the Coolmore group, Kentucky-based stallions Luhuk, from Gainesway, and Mutakddim, from Hill 'n' Dale, will join them.

Vinery will export seven of its stallions to Australia. Six of those are bound for their farm near Scone, NSW. Gilded Time, Langfuhr, More Than Ready, Real Quiet, Red Ransom, and Sandpit will join Loup Sauvage (a former Vinery stallion now based in England) and Way of Light (based in Japan) in Australia. Dare and Go is bound for Vatana Farm.

Three stallions based outside Kentucky will travel afar this season. Memo, based at California's Ridgeley Farm, will stand at Haras Mocito Guapo in Chile. Marablue Farm's Bon Point and Tactical Advantage are already in Argentina.
