Noverre, Godolphin Racing's talented homebred son of Rahy, rallied under Frankie Dettori to catch leader No Excuse Needed and post his first group I victory in the Champagne Lanson Sussex Stakes (Eng-I) at Goodwood, England on Wednesday. The winning 3-year-old, sent off at 9-2 odds, appeared beaten as No Excuse Needed and Black Minnaloushe, the 3-1 favorite, battled on the front end nearing the finish. But Noverre and Dettori unleashed their winning bid to catch No Excuse Needed with 100 yards remaining in the one-mile test and carried his momentum to a two-length triumph. Black Minnaloushe, Michael Tabor and Mr. John Magnier's son of Storm Cat, held on for third.
Bred in Kentucky by the Maktoum's Darley Stud Management, Noverre has won five of 11 career starts, with four placings. His best previous win was in last year's Thehorsemouth.co.uk Champagne Stakes (Eng-II). In addition to two other stakes wins, Noverre finished second or third in three other group I races
