Hopeful, Forego Highlight Final Saturday Card at Spa

The grade I, $200,000 Hopeful for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs and the grade I, $250,000 Forego Handicap for older horses at 6 1/2 furlongs highlight the final Saturday card of the 2001 Saratoga meet. CNBC will televise the Hopeful (4:45 p.m. ET) as part of its one-hour telecast beginning at 4 p.m. The Forego will be the ninth race of the 10-race card, with a post time of 5:18 p.m.

The 97th Hopeful kicks off the Bessemer Trust Two-Year-Old Challenge, a nationwide series of races for juvenile colts televised by CNBC. The Challenge carries a potential bonus of $1.3 million and leads up to the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile, part of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Challenge will award a $250,000 bonus to the owner of any horse that wins one of the seven races in the series, plus the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. If the horse has been sold at public auction, the consignor is eligible to receive a $50,000 bonus. An additional $1 million bonus will be earned if that horse goes on to win the 2002 Kentucky Derby.
