Eclipse Awards Ceremony Returns to Florida

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association has announced that the 31st annual Eclipse Awards ceremony, honoring Thoroughbred horse racing's divisional champions for 2001, will take place Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Florida. The 2000 awards ceremony took place in New Orleans last Jan. 30. The awards were last handed out in Florida in 1999 for the 1998 racing season.

The black-tie dinner caps a President's Day holiday weekend that includes the running of the grade I Fountain of Youth Stakes at nearby Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Feb. 16. A charity golf tournament will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17, and the Big Sport of Turfdom luncheon takes places Monday afternoon.

The Eclipse Awards are presented by the NTRA, the National Turf Writers Association, and the Daily Racing Form. In addition to honoring champion horses and humans for yearlong excellence, Eclipse Awards are also given to members of the media for outstanding coverage of Thoroughbred racing.
