The World Thoroughbred Championships is an eight-race, $13-million day of racing scheduled to be televised live by NBC in the United States from 1-6 p.m. Eastern time, and by other networks throughout the world.
Breeders' Cup officials on Monday afternoon affirmed plans to conduct the Oct. 27 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park in New York. Rumors have circulated recently that Breeders' Cup was discussing a possible move in light of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on New York City."Currently, there are no insurmountable obstacles to running the World Thoroughbred Championships in New York," Breeders' Cup president D.G. Van Clief Jr. said. "Like all other sports organizations we are closely monitoring the situation and are taking every precaution to ensure the security of our patrons and our event participants."
