Select Stable's Repent returned from a nose-length maiden win Sept. 7 at Turfway Park to win the track's $100,000 Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes (gr. III) Saturday, giving Preakness (gr. I) winner Louis Quatorze his first stakes winner as a sire.
Under Anthhony D'Amico, Repent broke from the outside post in the seven-horse field of 2-year-olds and proceeded to race in sixth position through the early going. Repent made a four-wide move on the second turn, then challenged French Assault in the stretch before pulling away to a 1 1/2-length victory. On a fast track, Repent completed the 1 1/16 mils in 1:43.78.
French Assault overcame a stumbling start to finish second, eight lengths ahead of Gold Dollar. Truman's Raider, Shining Career, Hunter Cruise, and Watch Me Fire completed the order of finish.
Repent earned $62,750 for the win improving his career mark to two wins from three attempts for trainer Ken McPeek. Taylor Made Farm Inc. bred Repent in Kentucky.
Repent returned $15, $6.80, and $2.40. French Assault paid $6.60 and $2.60. Gold Dollar, who ran as a coupled entry with Truman's Raider, was worth $2.10 to show. The winning exacta combination paid $69.80. (Chart, Equibase
