Major German Stallion Lomitas to Dalham Hall

Lomitas, whose son Silvano won this year's Arlington Million Stakes (gr. IT), will relocate to Sheikh Mohammed's Dalham Hall Stud near Newmarket, England, from Gestut Fahrhof in Germany. Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud Management owns an interest in Lomitas, which it had acquired when the stallion's first runners were 3-year-olds. Lomitas, a Horse of the Year in Germany as a homebred for Gestut Fahrhof, will stand for £12,000.

"He's one of the best racehorses and finest stallions Germany has produced, and moving him to Darley is certain to present him with mares of a very high quality and from diverse bloodlines," said Dr. Andreas Jacobs of Gestut Fahrhof. "I'm delighted Lomitas has an opportunity to prove himself on the world stage."

Thirteen-year-old Lomitas (Niniski--La Colorada, by Surumu) has sired seven stakes winners, including German champions Belenus and Sumitas. The former scored his major win in the Deutsches Derby (Ger-I). Sumitas also earned a championship in Italy and is a U.S. stakes winner this year.

Silvano, who ran second in the Man o' War Stakes (gr. IT) following the Arlington Million, will enter stud in 2002 at Gestut Fahrhof. Produced from the Beau's Eagle mare Spirit of Eagles, 5-year-old Silvano has won seven of 16 races and $2,265,727.
