Maryland Million Boasts 98 Entries

Ninety-eight horses are entered for the 16th running of the Maryland Million on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course. The 11-race card with purses of $1.05 million showcases the best products of Maryland breeding farms and horses sired by Maryland stallions.

Nine horses are entered in the $200,000 Maryland Million Classic, including Testing, who took last year's event as a 7-year-old. Pimlico oddsmaker Clem Florio has tabbed P Day, who was third in last year's Classic, as the 3-1 choice in a wide-open field. The Classic is the 10th race of the day with a 5:18 p.m. scheduled post time.

Ten fillies and mares are running including a pair with stakes wins in Maryland this year. Tony Dutrow is sending Case of the Blues, the Heartlight No. One Stakes winner, while Gigi' Magic took the Jameela Stakes in March.

Seven three-year old fillies will run, including Guillotine, who won the Hilltop Stakes during Preakness week.

A full field of 12 will tackle the turf, including Cynics Beware, the returning champion and two horses with stakes wins at Pimlico last month. La Reine's Terms won the Bald Eagle Breeders' Cup on Sept. 8, and a week later Elberton set a track record for five-furlongs on the grass in the Mister Diz Stakes.

Jorgie Stover and Dr. Max, stakes winners in Maryland this year, headline the nine-horse field, though the likely favorite is In CC's Honor, who has battled some of the top sprinters in the nation all year.

With 15 career wins, Allen Gorgeous has the most wins on the Maryland Million card.
