A new record price of 475,000 guineas was set during the morning session of Day 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when Charlie Gordon-Watson outbid John Ferguson for the bay filly by Danehill out of Mythical Creek. Offered from Roy and Belinda Strudwick's Ballygallon Stud in Ireland, the filly is closely related to Hong Kong Derby winner Johan Cruyff and was purchased for Coolmore supremo John Magnier. The sale was a spectacular success for the Strudwick's who purchased Mythical Creek at Tattersalls December Mares sale for 150,000 guineas in 1998The third day of the October Yearling Sale saw 158 lots being sold for a total of 10,417,500 guineas, at an average of 65,933 guineas and a median of 46,500 guineas. The average was marginally lower than last year's corresponding figures, but up a staggering 72% the corresponding average from 1999.
John Ferguson paid 440,000 guineas on Thursday evening, the equal third highest price ever at the October Yearling Sales when he outbid Demi O'Byrne for the Grand Lodge colt out of the Last Tycoon mare Wokf Cleugh. The sale was a major pinhooking success for Lynn Lodge Stud owner Eddie O'Leary who purchased the colt as a foal for Ir£65,000.Earlier in the evening Angus Gold, acting on behalf of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Estates, purchased the Darshaan colt out of Night Shift mare Subya for 270,000 guineas. The colt was consigned from Sir Stephen Hastings' Milton Park Stud who sold this year's Italian Oaks winner Zanzibar at the same sale two years ago. Underbidder on the attractive colt was locally based bloodstock agent John Warren. Subya was another fine advertisement for the Tattersalls December Sale having been purchased for 76,000 guineas by bloodstock agent Joss Collins in 1999, carrying the Darshaan colt.Selling continues at 9.15am on Friday.
