Jump Start, who underwent several hours of surgery to repair his left front leg that was injured during the Oct 27 Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), might be going to stud in 2002 at William T. Young's Overbrook Farm near Lexington. An Overbrook homebred, Jump Start was returned to trainer Wayne Lukas' barn at Belmont Park after the surgery.

"Everything depends on his recovery from the injury," said Overbrook official Ric Waldman. "We hope to stand him for all or part of the breeding season."

A son of A.P. Indy, Jump Start captured the Saratoga Special Stakes (gr. II) and ran second to Officer in the Champagne Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park. He retires with two wins from five starts and earnings of $221,265. He is the first foal from grade II stakes-placed Steady Cat (by Storm Cat).
