Trainer Jim Chapman entered Caller One Friday for Sunday's $100,000 Vernon O. Underwood (gr. III) at Hollywood Park to the surprise of track officials.
Following the Frank De Francis Memorial Dash (gr. I), in which the 4-year-old gelding finished sixth while sustaining a minor injury, Chapman said Caller One would be put away until next year with a defense of his victory in the Dubai Golden Shaheen in mind.
"I decided about a half-hour before I entered," said Chapman. "Caller One grabbed a quarter in his last start at Laurel, but he healed up, looks good and is doing all right."
Caller One drew post one for the six-furlong Underwood and will be ridden by Tyler Baze under high weight of 124 pounds.
The field for the Underwood will consist of:
1 -- Caller One, Tyler Baze, 124
2 -- Very Caerleon, Jose Valdivia Jr., 114
3 -- Forest Camp, Chris McCarron, 116
4 -- Warum Nicht, Martin Pedroza, 114
5 -- Men's Exclusive, Laffit Pincay Jr., 120
6 -- Beaumes de Venise, Garrett Gomez, 120
7 -- Morocco, Gary Stevens, 122
8 -- Lake William, Alex Solis, 120
9 -- Tavasco, Mike Smith, 114
