Renaissance Woman, Feverish Work Toward Weekend Stakes

Renaissance Woman worked four furlongs in :49.40 Wednesday at Hollywood Park for trainer Simon Bray to earn a probable start in the $345,000 Hollywood Starlet for 2-year-old fillies on Sunday.

"I've just got to call Marty (owner-breeder Marty Wygod) to confirm it," said Bray after the filly worked to his satisfaction. Renaissance Woman, by Deputy Minister out of Halloween Baby, broke her maiden by three lengths in her second start at the Starlet distance of 1 1/16 miles here Nov. 30.

Renaissance Woman will probably be the distant fourth choice behind grade I stakes winners You, Habibti and Tali'sluckybusride in the grade I Starlet. Other possible starters include Respectful and/or No Turbulence from the Eric Kruljac stable.

Trainer Bob Baffert said that David Flores would replace Victor Espinoza aboard Habibti. The Thoroughbred Corp. filly recorded two victories in three starts under Espinoza, breaking her maiden and winning the Del Mar Debutante at Del Mar before finishing seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Habibti has recorded a series of solid works at Santa Anita, including seven-furlong bullets in her last two drills.

Probable starters include You (Jerry Bailey), Tali'sluckybusride (Jose Valdivia, Jr.), Habibti (Flores) and Renaissance Woman (Alex Solis). All starters will carry 120 pounds.

Also working at Hollywood Park on Wednesday, was Feverish, the defending champion in the Bayakoa Handicap who breezed four furlongs in :50.20 for trainer Dan Hendricks in her final drill for the grade II, $150,000 test for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on Saturday.

Feverish, a 6-year-old mare, has been in the money in 31 of 41 starts while earning $905,983 for owner-breeders Marty and Pam Wygod. Feverish seeks to become the second Bayakoa repeater in its 20-year history, joining Manistique, who won in 1998 and 1999.

Critikola, fourth-place finisher in the Bayakoa last year, worked four furlongs in a bullet :46.60 at Santa Anita for trainer Bill Spawr.

The Wygods also plan to run millionaire Tranquility Lake, the 122-pound highweight. Probable starters include: Tranquility Lake, Eddie Delahoussaye, 122; Starrer, Jerry Bailey, 118; Feverish, Kent Desormeaux, 116; Cee Dreams, Alex Solis, 114; Tropical Lady, Chris McCarron, 114; and Minor Details, David Flores, 113.

Possibilities include Queenie Belle (118), Critikola (116), Verruma (114), Queen Of Wilshire (113) and Beloved (112).
