Tranquility Lake, bred by North Central Bloodstock and produced from the Danzig mare Winters' Love, scored grade I turf wins in the 2000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes and 1999 Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap. This year, she won the Palomar (gr. IIT), Clement L. Hirsch (gr. IIT) and Wilshire (gr. IIIT) Handicaps.
Millionaire Tranquility Lake, who was scheduled to run in the Dec. 15 Bayakoa Handicap (gr. II) at Hollywood Park, was retired prior to the race and will begin life as a broodmare for owners Martin and Pam Wygod. The 6-year-old daughter of Rahy retires with 11 wins from 27 starts and earnings of $1,662,390."She came down with a fever before the race, which probably would have been her last start," said Russell Drake, manager of the Wygods' River Edge Farm near Buellton, Calif. "She's done enough."Drake mentioned the benefits of breeding her to Central Kentucky stallion Storm Cat, especially since one of Storm Cat's best sons, European champion Giant's Causeway, was produced from a Rahy mare.
