A total of 205 juveniles has been cataloged for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's February select sale of 2-year-olds in training at Calder Race Course. The number is down from 2001, when 217 were catalogued. This year's auction is scheduled for Feb. 5. Under tack shows will be held Monday, Jan. 28, and Sunday, Feb. 3, beginning at 10:30 a.m. (EST).
Last year, 136 horses were sold for a gross of $14,124,000, an average price of $103,853, and a median price of $75,000. Compared to 2000, the number sold and gross were down by 4.2% and 9.5%, respectively. The average and median were down by 5.5% and 21.1%, respectively.
A colt by Irish River brought an OBS Calder record $900,000. Buzz Chace, agent, signed the ticket on behalf of Raymond Dweck for the dark bay or brown colt, which was consigned by Mark Casse, Agent. Named Max's Buddy, the colt broke his maiden in his second start in December at Hollywood Park.
