"Mr. Castillo is undergoing a CAT scan, and is in stable condition," said Ole W. Pedersen, Jamaica Hospital's vice president of emergency medicine and public affairs. "He is also being treated for minor cuts and bruises."
Jockeys Heberto Castillo Jr. and Robert Villafan were hospitalized Friday after suffering injuries in a spill during Aqueduct's seventh race. Castillo's mount, Madame Viceroy B B, sustained a fractured left front leg and was euthanized.The incident occurred during the stretch run when Madame Viceroy B B swerved toward the rail, causing Villafan's mount, Born to Bop, to alter course and unseat Villafan.Castillo suffered a head wound and had pain in his shoulder and ear, while Villafan had precautionary X-rays taken on his right hand and right side of his face at North Shore University Hospital. Castillo was taken to Jamaica Hospital.
