Metatron Romps by Seven in Return

In the "You gotta start somewhere" department, Metatron, who finished second in last year's Hollywood Juvenile Championship and Best Pal Stakes and third in the Lane's End Breeders Futurity and Del Mar Futurity, returned to the races following a four-month layoff Friday and romped by seven lengths in a six-furlong allowance race at Golden Gate.

The son of Silver Ghost, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, went right to the front under Russell Baze and kept increasing his lead, winning in hand in a sharp 1:09 flat as the 1-5 favorite. In his four stakes defeats, he was beaten by Officer twice, Siphonic, and Came Home.

Metatron has the major stamina influence Le Fabuleux pretty close up in his female family, resulting in a 1.83 dosage index. However, he has always shown good speed, and in his career debut, he set a track record going 4 1/2 furlongs at Bay Meadows. In all four of his races under seven furlongs, he set a scorching half-mile fraction of :44 and change. Hollendorfer has been putting a lot of foundation in him in an attempt to harness some of his speed by working him four straight times at six furlongs going into Friday's race.
