Jerry Bailey will have the opportunity to log more frequent flyer miles next weekend, when the jockey will fly to California from his South Florida base for the fourth straight weekend. Bailey will ride Bobby Frankel-trained You in the Feb. 10 Las Virgenes Stakes.
You worked six furlongs Sunday in 1:13 in preparation for the one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies. You will likely face Hollywood Starlet winner Habibti and the undefeated Bella Bella Bella in the grade I test.
Also pointing for the race is Florida-bred Rich Musique.
"She's ready to run," said trainer Vladimir Cerin while trackside Sunday morning. "When they're ready, good things can happen."
Cerin said she encountered trouble early in her last start, in which she tired after setting a quick pace.
"I doubt that there'll be quite as much pace as there was in the last one," Cerin said. "She stopped going seven furlongs, but that's not necessarily an indication that she'll stop going a mile. She stumbled and lost about three lengths at the start (in the Santa Ynez). Then she goes out in :22 and 44-and-three - going seven-eighths, that's difficult."
David and Holly Wilson's Rich Musique has won two of four career starts, and finished fourth in her lone stakes start, the grade II Santa Ynez. She finished fourth in the Santa Ynez, beaten by 3 1/2 lengths by Dancing.
The Las Virgenes is the final prep race for the 1 1/16-mile Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I, Mar. 9).
The probables, with jockeys, are: Bella Bella Bella, Chris McCarron; Habibti, Victor Espinoza; Rich Musique, Patrick Valenzuela; Spring Meadow, Corey Nakatani; and You, Jerry Bailey. Santa Anita lists Tali'sluckybusride as a possible entrant.
