McCarron Resigns From Youbet Board

Jockey Chris McCarron has resigned from the board of directors because of increasing demands from the Jockey's Guild. He will continue to be a corporate spokesman and product adviser, which he's done since 1996.

"This is a pivotal time for the Guild and they need my undivided attention," McCarron said. "There simply are not enough hourse in the day to properly dedicate the time needed to be on both boards."

McCarron, whose resignation is effective today, serves on the Jockey's Guild executive committee. He played a pivotal role in replacing former national manager John Giovanni and organization's full-time staff last June with a California-based management company called Matrix Capital Associates. The turnover at the Guild was sparked by a decision to discontinue medical insurance coverage for members because the premiums had become too expensive.

The Guild has since secured insurance coverage again and is now working on building a foundation to support disabled riders.

Giovanni sued the Guild for wrongful termination. The suit is still pending.
