A year ago in April, Keeneland sold 91 horses for $14,898,000. The average was a record $163,714. Bob Baffert, as agent, paid the top price of the 2001 sale--$775,000--for a filly by Dixieland Band out of Honey Bee Gold.
Keeneland will catalog a near-record 249 horses for its 10th annual sale of 2-year-olds in training that is scheduled for April 16 in Lexington. The total is 50 more than the number cataloged a year ago and four less than the record 253 horses cataloged for the 1994 sale.Sires represented in this year's sale including A.P. Indy, Deputy Minister, Gone West, Kingmambo, Mr. Prospector, Saint Ballado, Seattle Slew, Thunder Gulch, and Unbridled.Eddie Woods has the largest consignment in the sale, 33. Other large consignments include Niall Brennan (27), Robert N. Scanlon (25), Kirkwood Stables (23), Nick de Meric (19) and Jerry Bailey Agency (14).
