Steve Haskin's Derby Report (Cont.)

-- Todd Pletcher has been anxiously awaiting the career debut of his Seattle Slew colt Seattle Glory. It finally came in a 6-furlong maiden race at Fair Grounds on Feb. 12. After breaking slowly, Seattle Glory went 5-wide turning for home, then made up 4 1/2 lengths in the final furlong to win by a half-length in 1:11 flat. Pletcher now will stretch him out in his next start and see where he stands.

-- Publication, who finished a fast-closing fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile is back working steadily at Bay Meadows after being given a freshening by trainer Terry Knight. The Arlington-Washington Futurity winner is pointing for the Louisiana Derby. "His loss in the Hollywood Futurity was puzzling," Knight said. "The track was wet and he was just dull over it. He lost some of his sharpness, so I just backed off and started over."

-- New York sensation Lord ofthe Thunder suffered a pulled muscle that will keep him out of action for at least another month. "We want to make sure he's over this before we lean on him too hard," trainer Dick Lundy said.
