Carson City Colt Sets Pace In Fasig-Tipton Under Tack Show

A colt by Carson City set the pace Sunday in the second and final under tack show for the Fasig-Tipton Florida select sale of 2-year-olds in training. Aided by a brisk tailwind, he zipped an eighth of a mile in :10 at Calder Race Course to equal the auction's record for the distance.

Produced from the stakes-placed Deputy Minister mare Delegating, the chestnut colt is a half-brother to stakes winner Just Ruler (by Cox's Ridge). Florida pinhooker Ken Ellenberg purchased the colt for $200,000 at last year's Saratoga select yearling sale. The speedy youngster is consigned to Fasig-Tipton's juvenile auction by the Jerry Bailey Sales Agency, agent for Bailey-Ellenberg Select.

A Hennessy colt and a Pulpit colt shared the fastest time for a quarter mile of :21 2/5.

Consigned by Hoby and Layna Kight, agents, the Hennessy colt was produced from the unraced Raise a Native mare Sweet Little Lies and is a half-brother to stakes winner Malibu Light (by Capote). Hoby Kight purchased the colt for $70,000 at the 2001 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July select yearling sale.

Consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent, the Pulpit colt was produced from the unraced Bering mare Alaskan Tide, who is a half-sister to English group III stakes winner Hibernian Gold (by Golden Act) and another European added-money winner, Irish Shoal (by Diamond Shoal). Eisaman Equine purchased the Pulpit colt for $35,000 at the 2001 Keeneland September yearling sale.

The weather for the under tack show was cool and sunny, and the track was fast.

The Fasig-Tipton Calder auction is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT).
