There is a two-turn allowance race scheduled on the Florida Derby card, which could be an alternate route. Scheduled to run in that race is the Niall O'Callaghan-trained Monarchoftheglen, who was impressive finishing second in an allownace race in his U.S. debut.
Fountain of Youth and Holy Bull winner Booklet turned in a bullet 5-furlong work in :59 4/5 at Gulfstream Friday morning in preparation for the March 16 Florida Derby. Also on the work tab was Florida Derby hopeful D'Coach, who breezed 5 furlongs in 1:02.Booklet's work, with exercise rider Allen Rennie aboard, was listed as breezing. "It was a very good work, and Allen had him under wraps," trainer John Ward said. "He had excellent splits (the first three-eighths in :35 3/5) and I'm very pleased with the way he went this morning. I'll work him one more time before the Florida Derby. Probably a week from tomorrow and that'll be it."D'Coach, who is a possibility for the Florida Derby, shipped down from Aqueduct following placings in the Whirlaway and Count Fleet Stakes. "He worked good, and I'm satisfied with it," trainer Shug McGaughey said. "He could run in the Florida Derby, but I'll wait and see how things go."
