Warners, Quest Star Entered in Ocala Stakes Races

Triple Crown nominees Warners and Quest Star are entered in separate stakes races on Monday's Ocala Breeders Sales Company's six-race card. Warners, who sold for just over $1 million at the March 2001 2-year-old sale, will make is sophomore debut in the OBS Sprint Stakes, while $150,000 purchase Quest Star goes in the 1 1/16-mile OBS Championship Stakes.

Eugene and Laura Melnyk's Warners is a son of Dehere trained by Todd Pletcher, who earned his lone win in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden race at Saratoga last September in his second career start. Warners bucked his shins while preparing to run in the Cowdin Stakes and hasn't raced since his initial victory. John Velazquez will guide Warners from post seven.

Mansell Stable's Quest Star, like Warners, has just a maiden win to his credit. The Elliott Walden-trained son of Broad Brush has been keeping good company in two allowance race losses since defeating Florida Derby (gr. I) entrant Blue Burner by 1 1/2 lengths on Jan. 12. Following his maiden win he finished second by a half-length to another Florida Derby entrant –- Personal Reward –- before finishing third behind the promising Nick Zito trainee Straight Gin and Marasca earlier this month. Pat Day will be in the irons for the $100,000 race.

Victoria Stakes winner Expected Hour is cross-entered in both events. William S. Farish's son of Valid Expectations has raced at Tampa Bay Downs for both of his 3-year-old starts, finishing second in the seven-furlong Pasco Stakes and seventh -- 9 1/4 lengths behind an extremely troubled Bunk N Ted -- in the 1 1/16-mile Sam F. Davis Stakes.

The Ocala Breeders Sales Company is hosting a six-race card Monday for graduates of OBSC sales or progeny of Florida-based stallions. (Entries, OBSC)
