In other Santa Anita Derby developments, trainer D. Wayne Lukas said Shah Jehan will start next in the allowance ranks. The $4.4 million yearling purchase is in need of a "confidence builder," according to Lukas."We threw him into the deep end, and he floundered," Lukas said. "It's time to get back to the wading end of the pool."Probable Derby starters, according to Santa Anita, are Yougottawanna, Danthebluegrassman, Easy Grades, Fonz's, U S S Tinosa, and Lusty Latin. Possibles include Repent, Jack's Silver, Captain Squire, and Tracemark.
Came Home, showing no ill-effects from becoming cast in his stall last week, worked five furlongs at Santa Anita Friday morning in 1:00 3/5 with Chris McCarron in the irons in preparation for the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I, April 6)."We got him in a minute-and-two," said trainer Paco Gonzalez. "He galloped out (six furlongs) in 1:13-and-three. He's doing very good."Came Home has won both his starts impressively this season, but has yet to win a race beyond the one-mile distance of the San Rafael (gr. II). In the Santa Anita Derby, the Gone West colt out of a Clever Trick mare will need to stretch out an additional furlong.
