Stellar if Small Field Goes in First Grade I Steeplechse

A select group of five horses will face the starter for Saturday's $100,000 Carolina First Carolina Cup, the first Grade I steeplechase stakes of the 2002 season, at Springdale Race Course in Camden, S.C.

The quintet is headed by Augustin Stable's Lord Zada and Jennifer Majette's Al Skywalker, both NSA-I winners in 2001.

With Al Skywalker's 2001 Carolina Cup win and Lord Zada's 2001 Colonial Cup score, they own the last two stakes wins over the Springdale course.
Al Skywalker tired to finish third to Lord Zada in the 2 3/4-mile Colonial Cup last November, but won the 2 1/4-mile Carolina Cup by 12 over the talented Campanile.

Beyond the top pair, the field includes 2001 stakes winners Indispensable and Canta Ke Brave plus the enigmatic Turkish Corner.

The Carolina Cup field (with jockey and weight) in post position order: Lord Zada (Gus Brown, 154); Al Skywalker (Tom Foley, 154); Indispensable (J.W. Delozier, 146); Canta Ke Brave (Chip Miller, 146); and Turkish Corner (Blythe Miller, 146)
