The foal resulting from the Albert the Great--Jeweled Pirate breeding will have two crosses to each of Ribot, Northern Dancer, and Never Bend in the fifth generation, and three to Raise A Native.
Betty and Robert G. Irvin's two-time stakes winner Jeweled Pirate has been retired from racing and will be bred to Three Chimneys Farm stallion Albert the Great."The plan was to run her twice more, in the Irish O'Brien (second to Above Perfection March 17), then at Hollywood in the Gold Rush at the end of the month," explained trainer Ray Bell. "But it was getting late (in the breeding season), and if we breed her this month, then we can look forward to a March foal next year."The California-bred daughter of Pirate's Bounty--Jewel Ball, by Nijinsky's Secret, won five of 13 career starts, including a pair of restricted turf stakes last year, the Pro Or Con Handicap and the Californina Cup Distaff Handicap. She retires with career earnings of $332,610.
