Repent Could Be Back For Travers

Repent, who suffered a chip in his left front ankle in the Illinois Derby, will undergo arthroscopic surgery Monday, and trainer Kenny McPeek is hopeful he'll be ready for the Travers Stakes.

"Dr. (Larry) Bramlage will perform the surgery," McPeek said, "and it wouldn't surprise me if he said it was OK to put him back in training in 45 days. If that's the case, we might make the Travers with him.

"You can't even tell he has an injury. He's not sore or lame at all. It's just that if you don't take care of this now, he could wind up hurting his other leg."

McPeek said that Ashland Stakes winner Take Charge Lady, owned by Select Stable, which also owns Repent, definitely will be pointed for the Kentucky Oaks. A big effort there, and they might consider the Preakness Stakes. Take Charge Lady earned an impressive 109 Beyer Speed Figure in the Ashland.
