Illinois Derby Winner Distilled Retired Due to Injury

Dogwood Stable's Illinois Derby (gr. II) winner Distilled suffered a suspensory injury during a workout and has been retired from racing.

The son of Hennessy previously injured the suspensory ligament of his left-front ankle while contesting last year's Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland. The 4-year-old Todd Pletcher trainee retires with three wins from 12 starts and career earnings of $378,410. In his last start, he finished third in an optional claiming/allowance race on March 16 at Gulfstream Park.

Distilled is currently at Sunnyside Farm in Paris, Ky. Stud plans have not been finalized.

"We will now be discussing stallion plans for the horse in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres," said Cot Campbell, the stable's president.

Distilled was produced from the French group III winning Woodman mare Wood of Binn and is a half-brother of Kent Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III) winner Three Wonders.
