Alywow's Son Century City Wins Leopardstown Guineas Trial

Century City became the second stakes winner produced from the recently deceased broodmare Alywow, when the son of Danzig won Sunday's Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial Stakes by two lengths at the Irish track. Mrs. John Magnier's 3-year-old colt completed the mile in 1:38.7 on good to firm ground.

A pair of Indian Ridge-sired colts finished second and third, with Moyglare Stud Farm's Sights on Gold finishing a head in front of third-place Masani. Stonemason completed the order of finish.

Aidan O'Brien trains the bay colt, who was ridden by Michael Kinane.

"Michael says he is still babyish and idled in front," O'Brien told Sporting Life. "It was his first time racing round a bend, but he would love going a straight mile and I wouldn't rule out him running at Newmarket."

Alywow (Alysheba -- Triple Wow, by Coastal), the Canadian Horse of the Year in 1994, was euthanized March 2 after a long battle with a bone infection. Her daughter by Storm Cat, Hidden Cat, won a listed stakes race.

Kilcarn Stud bred Century City in Ireland.
