"I was pleased with the work, considering there was a lot of traffic out there," O'Callaghan said in reference to the large number of horses on the track at the time. "But she handled it well. I don't think she could be doing any better right now."
While the colts and geldings who will compete in the Kentucky Derby are taking much of the limelight at Churchill Downs in the mornings, about a dozen fillies continue to progress toward the Kentucky Oaks run on Derby eve.On Wednesday, Oaks contenders You, Habibti, and Ms Brookski were on the track for workouts leading up to the May 3 race.Santa Anita Oaks winner You, trained by Bobby Frankel, who won last year's Oaks with Flute, worked six furlongs in 1:13 1/5 and galloped out seven-eighths of a mile in 1:26 4/5. Her splits were :24 1/5, :36, :48, and 1:00 2/5."She looked pretty good," Frankel said. "She doesn't take much. She has been away (from racing) for six weeks and is right on schedule. But this is a tougher field than it was last year."Frankel said You will have her final tune-up for the Oaks with a three furlong work next Wednesday.Meanwhile, trainer Bob Baffert sent out Habibti to work six furlongs in 1:13 2/5. "She worked nicely; I think she likes this track" Baffert said, noting that the filly "had gotten light on me and has taken a while for her to get back."The other Oaks probable to work Wednesday was Ms Brookski, trained by Niall O'Callaghan. She was timed in 1:00 3/5 for five furlongs.
