KTA Introduces Fayette County Elementary Students to Thoroughbreds

For the first time elementary-age students have been introduced to the Thoroughbred horse through "Kids Connection to Thoroughbreds," a program in Fayette County public schools. In recent years, a curriculum for high school-age students has been available, but this is the first foray into reaching younger students in the classroom.

"The purpose of this project is to educate our youth," said David Switzer of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association, which is closely involved with the program. "If the classroom teacher can use the Thoroughbred as a means to teach math, music, history, science, and social studies while making it fun and interesting fo tth ekids, then we're on the right track."

Each subject area taught in Fayette County Schools has its own set of lesson plans and learning tools within the Kids Connection to Thoroughbreds curriculum. The program is free of charge to elementary schools.
