A private funeral service for owner-breeder John Mabee will be held Tuesday, with a visitation scheduled for Monday and a memorial service to be held next Tuesday, May 7 (not May 8 as was previously reported here). Mabee, the founder of Golden Eagle Farm, died April 24, less than a week after suffering his second major stroke in two years. Mabee was 80.
Mabee's funeral will be a private service and burial for immediate family only. The visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego. A "Last Call to Post" memorial service is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the finish line of the Del Mar turf course, with a reception to follow.
